Assistant professorship in Life Cycle Engineering

The Department of Green Technology (IGT) at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applications for an assistant professor position in life cycle engineering, circular economy and waste management systems. The position will be placed in the Center for Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) and is available from 01 June 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

SDU Life Cycle Engineering focuses on education and research contributing to global sustainability. With the announced position, LCE wishes to strengthen the capacity for regional scale application of LCA with emphasis on temporal dynamics and decision support. The position targets both practical and technological aspects and the development of key tools and methods for modelling and evaluation of technologies applied in local to global economic scales.

Your past research should include modeling of processes and/or systems, life cycle assessment – ideally including application of LCA on large scale systems and/or inclusion of temporally induced variations. In addition, your experience should include application of one or more of the following:

  • Life cycle assessment/ Life cycle sustainability assessment
  • Sustainable chemical production/conversion
  • Sustainability assessment of PtX technologies
  • Dynamic/temporally dependent life cycle assessment
  • Mass flow analysis
  • Sustainability optimization of technical system
  • Early guidance for technology development

Experience in one or several of the following will also be valued:

  • Application of procedures for interpretation/facilitated communication of complex sustainability performance result sets such as e.g. monetization of environmental impacts
  • Application of Product system modelling tools such as e.g. OpenLCA, GaBi, SimaPro and/or Brightway
  • Application and customization of inventory data sets
  • Techno-economic assessment
  • Application for research funding

Responsibilities and tasks:

The candidate will perform research, contribute to the teaching tasks, and share other responsibilities in the department. The candidate will engage in training of the next generation of researchers and environmental engineers and is expected to collaborate with researchers and especially with stakeholders across sectors, including policy makers, non-governmental organizations and industry. Main activities will include:

  • Teaching future engineers (MSc. courses in life cycle assessment and supervision) and supervision of doctoral students
  • Contribution to sustainability and circular economy transition strategies through participation in local regional and European scale research consortiums and research funding applications.

Qualifications:

  • You bring expertise and an adequate track record in the research topics listed below.
  • You have an adequate record of active participation in research consortia.
  • You have teaching and supervision experience.
  • You hold a relevant PhD degree.
  • You enjoy working with complex topics using a systems perspective.

A panel will assess the qualification of the candidate for the described post based on the submitted material, which should include

  • Relevant diplomas.
  • A list of publications.

The position is limited in time for 3 years.
