The School of Communication and Culture at Aarhus University invites applications for the position of either assistant professor or associate professor of design creativity and innovation based at the Department of Digital Design and Information Studies.

The assistant professorship is a full time, fixed-term three-year position, and subject to appropriate funding, there will be an opportunity to apply for a subsequent associate professorship. The associate professorship is full time and tenured.

The appointment is full time and begins on 1 August 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position

The Department of Digital Design and Information Studies offers a broad range of humanistic approaches to studying the relationship between humans and information technology, from the granular study of the agency of code to influencing policymaking in open and agile smart cities. Diverse and innovative methodologies are represented and encouraged in the department.

We are looking for an applicant with a strong background in design creativity mechanisms (e.g. constraints, sources of inspiration and ideation) and innovation (e.g. through design thinking) and who has a research interest in developing the connection between creativity and innovation in entrepreneurship. The successful applicant must be able to carry out empirical research by the use of qualitative or mixed methods.

In sum, we are looking for an innovative and dedicated applicant who will enhance the department’s research and teaching profiles nationally and internationally and contribute to Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of research, teaching and supervision, talent development and knowledge exchange.

Research

The Department of Digital Design and Information Studies at Aarhus University has a pronounced and significant international profile and a robust research network. The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary faculty. The department has flourishing areas in interaction design, participatory design, innovation, critical data studies, science-technology-society studies and digital aesthetics. We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate strong competences in design creativity and innovation and who can also help strengthen entrepreneurial research and teaching development.

The successful applicant will be expected to play a role in developing research in the field of design creativity and innovation. The successful applicant will be expected to publish original peer-reviewed research internationally as well as making scholarly contributions to developments within the field. The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to research initiatives in relation to both the field of design creativity and innovation and the research community at the department in terms of new collaborative research projects with internal and external partners, and in connection with external research funding.
