Research areas span from Indoor Environment and Energy Efficient buildings, Wind Turbines, Structural Design, Structural Materials, Geotechnical Engineering, Wave Energy to Traffic along with many other areas. The research is conducted in a national as well as an international research environment. The department takes on contract research for both public institutions and private companies. The research projects involve both theoretical research and in situ measurements along with laboratory experiments.

As an employee at the Department of the Built Environment, you become a part of an international research environment, where focus is on innovation, knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaborations.

The Department of the Built Environment at Aalborg University is looking for an Assistant Professor to join our research group on Risk, Resilience, Safety and Sustainability of Systems, which performs research and teaching within the domains of risk, reliability, and resilience in engineering and risk management.   The position requires research experience and skills in the following areas:

  • Probabilistic Agent-Based modeling for egress and occupancy conditions for risk assessment in public and private spaces.
  • Risk-Based Inspection of offshore structure in the energy industry: oil and gas, and wind industry
  • Structural Reliability and Risk in engineering
  • Probabilistic system and scenario modeling.

The research domains are within civil engineering but not limited to the engineering domain, considering risk management, risk-informed decision-making and technology development for risk assessment.

The Risk, Resilience, Safety and Sustainability of Systems research group has a key role in leading the Danish Center for Risk and Safety Management (see link ) and the Master in Risk and Safety Management (see link ) and due to this context, the position requires documented previous experience and related knowledge for teaching the following topics:

  • Risk analysis in management
  • Risk assessment tools in risk management: qualitative, quantitative, and simulation-based methods and tools.
  • Risk assessment in engineering
  • Simulation of evacuation and agent-based modeling

From a general perspective, the position involves:

  • Research in the areas above
  • Management and coordination of research activities
  • Writing applications and support efforts to apply for research funding
