Assistant Professor in Oral Surgery at the Department of Odontology

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a full time 3-year position to commence December 1st, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Assistant Professor will be required to undertake research, teaching and dissemination tasks within oral surgery and related fields.

Our research
The Department for Oral Surgery provides diagnostics and surgical treatment of hard and soft tissue diseases and conditions related to teeth and jaws. Special emphasis is on surgical removal of retained teeth, surgical endodontics, implant dentistry, and regeneration of hard and soft tissues before and in conjunction with implant placement.

Your job
The position entails research – including an obligation to publish and communicate scientific findings and provide research-based teaching as well as conducting related exams within the field of oral surgery.

The applicant must be prepared to undertake teaching assignments within other disciplines at the Department of Odontology.

The assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • research, including publication/academic dissemination duties
  • research-based teaching
  • sharing knowledge with society
  • participation in formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors

To a limited extent, the post may also involve administrative functions. The distribution of the individual assistant professor’s functions may vary periodically according to the requirements at the department, but will qualify the assistant professor in both research and teaching. During the term of employment, supervision will be provided as well as possibilities of educational upgrading with a view to a final written evaluation of the assistant professor’s teaching qualifications.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You hold a PhD degree within the field of oral surgery and a DDS degree, or equivalents
  • You have an active interest in exploring and developing new research topics
  • You have pre- and postgraduate teaching experience within the field of dentistry
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent Danish and English skills written as well as spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience with research and teaching in the field of oral surgery and related fields
  • Experience with clinical research

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Odontology, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and a large clinic with approx. 200 dental units, including facilities for specialist treatment.

Terms of employment
The employment as assistant professor is a full time and fixed-term position for 3 years. Starting date is December 1st, 2019 or after individual agreement.
Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts at 33,600 DKK/ approx. 4,480 Euro (April 2018-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.

    The further process
