At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, a position as Assistant Professor in Intelligent Power Electronics for Batteries is open for appointment from 1st November 2023 or soon hereafter. The position is for 3 years, but with an ending date to later than 31st August 2027.


Job description

The mission is to be world leading in both research and research-based education of the energy engineers of the future. AAU Energy has approx. 300 employees of many nationalities, of which 25 are administrative staff. In addition, AAU Energy constantly has approx. 50-70 guest researchers from around the world.

Research and teaching are in the absolute world elite in the field of energy, and we have extensive and leading workshop and laboratory facilities, where research and innovation are carried out in direct collaboration with industry to a great extent.

The position is offered in relation to the research program "Battery Systems" and the Assistant Professor will be positioned to the section for “Power Electronics System Integration and Materials”.

Research areas will be within intelligent power electronics for smart batteries, including advanced AI techniques based on on-line self-learning. The work will focus on modeling and testing AI-based solutions and contributions in the design and control of smart battery systems to prolong battery lifetime perspectives through in-silico (e.g., different simulation platforms) and in-vitro (e.g., controller/power hardware-in-the-loop) studies.

Teaching will primarily be in modeling, stability, and AI-based control of power electronics-based power systems, storage systems, electro-mobility at BSc, MSc and PHD level, but also in other study programmes at the University.

It is expected that applicants should have great experience within intelligent and robust control of power electronics & systems demonstrated by publications in highly ranked international journals/conferences. The ideal candidate for this position should have experiences in experiment development and testing with real-time simulator like for ex. OPAL-RT and power/controller hardware-in-the-loop (interface with power amplifiers for testing the influence of physical equipment either power hardware or controller prototypes on simulated infrastructure).

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).
