At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Built Environment, a position as Assistant Professor specialized in Construction Management is open for appointment from October 1, 2021 or soon hereafter. The position is available for a period of 4 years. The position will be within the research group Construction Management in the Division of Civil Engineering and Construction Management at the Department of the Built Environment, located in both Copenhagen and Aalborg. Your primary affiliation will be at the department in Aalborg. The Department of the Built Environment (BUILD) focuses on the technical and scientific disciplines within the built environment. Research areas span from Indoor Environment and Energy Efficient buildings, Wind Turbines, Structural Design, Structural Materials, Geotechnical Engineering, Wave Energy to Traffic along with many other areas. The research is conducted in a national as well as an international research environment. The department takes on contract research for both public institutions and private companies. The research projects involve both theoretical research and in situ measurements along with laboratory experiments. As an employee at the Department of the Built Environment, you become a part of an international research environment, where focus is on innovation, knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaborations.


Job description

The Construction Management group performs research and teaching at a high international level within a wide palette of themes, focused on the construction sector. You will be associated with our BSc and MSc educations, both in terms of teaching and supervision. The supervision is linked to the Aalborg model for problem-based learning (PBL).

The applicant’s main research focus areas could be:

  • Sustainability and sustainable construction
  • Circular economy
  • Environment and working environment

It is a requirement that the candidate has completed an education at Ph.d. level.

The ideal candidate also has documented experience in:

  • Research and publication in international journals
  • Funding in national and international funds.
  • Teaching and supervision
  • Development of teaching materials,
  • Digital teaching
  • Problem-based learning

In relation to the teaching, it is expected that the applicant can cover subjects within a broad spectrum of construction-related subjects, here especially law and project management. It will also be an advantage if the applicant has knowledge of on-site construction. The teaching and supervision will primarily take place in Danish, but it is expected that the applicant is also able to teach and communicate in English.

Qualification requirements
Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Your curriculum vitae, including personal data, educational background, scientific qualifications, dissemination skills, participation in committees and boards, and additional qualifications relevant for the position.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • A complete list of publications.
  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not.
