We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher who can enter the position for a 3-year period to commence on November 1, 2021.

We are a dynamic group of interdisciplinary researchers in microbiology and medical biology examining bacterial infectious biology. We have a broad national and international network of collaborators, which contributes to our high impact, state-of-the-art research within biofilm infections.

Your job

When considering applications for the position as an assistant professor, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within the area of skin disorders with special emphasis on the development, diagnosis and management of bacterial biofilms, and within the microenvironment of chronic infections.

The assistant professor's responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Sharing knowledge with society
  • Participation in formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in Clinical Microbiology
  • You are highly experienced in confocal microscopy and molecular analysis
  • You have an active interest in biofilm-based infections and human skin microbiota
  • You have pre- and postgraduate teaching experience within Bacterial Biofilm, Clinical Microbiology, Skin Microbiology and Immunology
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

The applicant should document original work on bacterial infection biology including advanced microscopy and gene expression analyses of samples from human skin and biofilm infections. 

Desirable experience and skills:

In addition to the formal requirements, the candidate should be able to demonstrate qualifications and considerable experience in the following areas:

  • General work with prokaryotes and pathogenic strains
  • Experience with bacterial biofilm and handling of different biofilm models
  • Experience with in vitro and in vivo skin models
  • Microscopy incl. fluorescence microscopy and electron microscopy
  • Extraction and analysis of DNA, RNA and protein
  • Amplicon and whole genome High Throughput Sequencing incl. evaluation of data sets

Place of employment

The place of employment is at Costerton Biofilm Center, Department of Immunology and Microbiology, Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and the newest equipment.

Terms of employment

The employment as assistant professor is a full time and fixed-term position for 3 years. Starting date is November 1, 2021 or after agreement.

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts at 36,700 DKK/ approx. 4,935 Euro (April 2021-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of January 2020.

The further process
