We are looking for an academic research staff to come and join us in the Translational Disease Systems Biology group at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR) www.cpr.ku.dk  

CPR comprises a wide range of expertise and resources including proteomics, protein production, general characterization of disease mechanisms, and bioinformatics. The Programme for Disease Systems Biology covers systems level aspects of biology and medicine, including the integration of molecular-level data and EHR data, such as laboratory test data, images and biomedical texts. You will be joining the group in the Programme for Disease Systems Biology  (www.cpr.ku.dk/research/disease-systems-biology/brunak/ ) led by Professor Søren Brunak that focuses on establishing early competitive advantage in disease-relevant computational analysis across the general areas of bioinformatics, systems biology and medical informatics. We are a diverse and highly multidisciplinary group, which is dynamic and ambitious with many renowned scientific collaborations both nationally and internationally.

Your job

The key tasks will include working with and improving current text mining dictionaries and pipelines to extract phenotypic patient information like co-morbidities, symptoms and adverse events from electronic patient records as well as provide support to the different researchers within the group at various stages of their research. In addition, focus will be on extracting relevant information from national registries, and integrating the phenotypic patient information extracted from unstructured text in records with the more structured information in registries.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computational biology
  • Programming experience in Python and R
  • Having worked with big data
  • An active interest in disease biology and text mining
  • Experience in bioinformatics
  • Excellent communication skills, and good written and spoken English

As the group is highly multidisciplinary and collaborate with many other research groups nationally and internationally, strong networking and team player skills are preferred.

Place of employment and work

The employment is at CPR www.cpr.ku.dk , University of Copenhagen, located in central Copenhagen. The research environment at CPR is ambitious and international, with approx. 30 different nationalities currently represented. The Center comprises modern laboratories, supercomputer resources and state-of-the-art facilities within protein science. Seminars with high-profile international speakers and regular internal research seminars are organized at the Center. The selected candidate should expect some travel activity.

Terms of salary and employment

Open-ended position with starting date October 1, 2021.

Working hours: 12 hours per week.

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be as an Academic Empæoyee (BA) in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. In addition to the seniority-based salary, supplements maybe negotiated on an individual basis.
