The Department of Odontology invites applications for the position as Assistant Professor in Oral Immunology from 1 January 2023, or as soon as possible. The period of employment is limited to 4 years.

About the department
We aim to promote health in the population by optimizing diagnostics, prevention, and treatment of diseases in the oral and craniofacial areas. Our purpose includes research-integrating teaching to ensure that basic, translational, and clinical research reaches clinical practice.

We focus on interdisciplinary research across our three research sections and collaborate with national and international institutions, municipalities, regional hospitals, private practice and businesses in the medical field to solve complex challenges regarding interactions between oral and medical diseases.

Job description
The Assistant Professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination duties
  • Research-based and -integrated teaching and associated examination duties within the Section of Oral Biology and Immunopathology
  • Sharing knowledge with society
  • Participation in formal pedagogical training programme for Assistant Professors.

The distribution of the Assistant Professor's different functions may vary periodically according to the department's requirements but will qualify the Assistant Professor in both research and teaching. During the period of employment supervision will be provided as well as possibilities of educational upgrading with a view to a final written evaluation of the Assistant Professor's teaching qualifications.

The Assistant Professor will be required to fulfil primary research, but also teaching obligations within oral immunology, including research activities related to the therapeutic, aetiological, and pathogenic aspects of oral diseases with inflammatory pathways as a part of their pathogenesis. The Assistant Professor is also expected to participate in the development of the scientific field and establish a modern molecular immunology laboratory and functions related to the establishment and maintenance of a biobank at the department.

Furthermore, course management and development may be required in one or more subject within the pre-graduate curriculum of odontology.

Qualifications and profile
Six overall criteria apply for assistant professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. Applicants must demonstrate a broad theoretical and research-based knowledge of immunology and experience in working with molecular, genetic, and immunological techniques.

Applicants with documented research experience in working with inflammatory oral diseases will be prioritized. The overall assessment of the candidates will focus on the research potential of each candidate in relation to the research profile of the Section of Oral Biology and Immunopathology and with curriculum work.

Applicants for the position must hold an MSc degree and must document scientific qualifications such as a PhD degree or similar qualifications within immunology.

Applicants are required to be enterprising and possess good interpersonal as well as collaborative skills. The assistant professor will be expected to speak/understand Danish or be able to obtain a sufficient level within a reasonable period.

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Odontology, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

Terms of employment
The position is a full-time position, average working hours of 37 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 4 years.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 35,720 DKK/approx. 4,800 EUR (October 2022 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

    The further process
