Associate Professor of Consumer Behaviour

The Department of Food Science at the University of Copenhagen (UCPH FOOD) invites applications for a position as Associate Professor of Consumer Behaviour from 1 December 2022, or soon as possible thereafter.

There is a growing need for evidence-based research supporting consumer food behaviour changes moswltowards more sustainable and healthy choices in Denmark and abroad. With the current position, the Department wishes to expand the consumer research and teaching capacity by focusing on consumer choice and acceptance and contributing to a green transition. The position will support the long-term development of healthy, palatable and sustainable foods and facilitate a dietary transition towards more sustainable consumptionpatterns.

The Department has a well-established research area within consumer science with dedicated facilities for studying consumer behaviour (see https://futureconsumerlab.ku.dk/ ).

The Associate Professor will be part of the Section for Design and Consumer Behaviour (DCB), which is among the leading scientific environments within integrated approaches to future food design, innovation, and addressing consumers’ preference behaviour. The candidate is expected to work cross-disciplinary and integrate knowledge and approaches from fields such as sensory science, product innovation, consumer behaviour and psychology.

The candidate should have a collaborative mindset and is expected to develop her/his research in close collaboration with other research groups, both nationally and internationally. Furthermore, a close collaboration with the Danish food sector should be established.

The Department of Food Science is internationally recognised for excellence in food science research and education, strong industrial collaboration, and a vibrant international environment, where English is the primary working language. The Department has the mission to contribute with new fundamental knowledge and innovative solutions for society and industry to support sustainable food production, food security and safety, and production of palatable and high-quality novel foods promoting human health and well-being.

The candidate must have qualifications and experience within several of the following areas:

  • Consumer research methodology (incl. surveys) and data modelling
  • Models for consumers’ behavioural change
  • Barriers and drivers for consumer food choice and acceptance
  • Decision-making processes
  • Sensory food science
  • Experimental psychology

Applicants are required to have university-level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies, and must be able to explain and reflect upon their own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.

Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff, and publication/scientific communication. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations and fulfil other tasks requested by the Department.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants, including the ability to attract external funding, will also be considered.

Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen.
