Tenure-track assistant Professor in Isotope geology
Department of Geoscience and Natural Resource Management
Faculty of Science
University of Copenhagen
We seek a new colleague with expertise in using traditional radiogenic isotopes and non-traditional heavy stable isotopes to address geoscientific questions and for tracing and provenancing of archaeological materials. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an international research portfolio and attract research funds within their area of expertise, and to collaborate with partners both within and outside of the institute. The candidate will also be expected to develop a teaching programme at both an introductory bachelor level and at more advanced levels. We expect the candidate to be able to teach in Danish after ca. 5 years. The geology section has a long tradition of teaching and research in petrology and geochemistry and has access to analytical facilities including electron microprobe, powder-XRD, micro-XRF, TIMS, ICP-OES and LA-ICPMS. It will thus be an advantage if the candidate already has experience with these instruments and can apply them in their research. We expect the successful candidate to contribute to the running, maintenance and development of some of these facilities.
The tenure track assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within isotope geochemistry. To a limited extent the position may also include other duties.
The tenure track assistant professor must have an academic standing showing internationally competitive research, and/or have internationally recognized high potential to make a future impact.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, internationally competitive research. The ability to attract external funding will be considered together with outreach qualifications. Teaching qualifications are not mandatory but documented teaching qualifications and teaching experience will be considered.
Six overall criteria apply for assistant professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Furthermore, each candidate must be assessed according to the specific requirements stated in the job advertisement. Please read more at https://jobportal.ku.dk/videnskabelige-stillinger/kriterier-for-videnskabelige-stillinger/dokumenter-til-meritering/5a_Criteria_for_recognising_merit_-Assistant_professors.pdf .
The position is open from 1 March 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Department of Geoscience and Natural Resource Management is part of the Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen. The geology section is organized in four research groups: basin studies; geophysics; geochemical, mineralogical and petrological earth sciences; and water resources. Through encouraged mutual collaboration among the research groups and with partners of Geocenter Denmark, the candidate will profit from access to a multitude of expert knowledge and other laboratories and will have the possibility for expanding into other cross-disciplinary research fields.
