The Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, Unit of Paediatric and International Nutrition (PIN) announces a position as Associate Professor within the research field of international nutrition and health for 40 months. The focus of the research is development of interventions to prevent and treat malnourished children.

Applicants must have a relevant academic degree e.g. in Human Nutrition, Public Health or a related subject area and have a PhD degree or comparable scientific qualifications. Qualifications within the following scientific areas are required:

  • international nutrition, especially related to childhood
  • epidemiological methods, including trial methodology
  • assessment of growth and body composition
  • assessment of the role of the gut in growth and nutrition

The qualifications of the applicant include scientific publication in the research field; research project management and conduct of intervention trials according to Good Clinical Practice in low-income countries, and experience in international and inter-disciplinary research collaboration.

The Associate Professor’s duties will include research within International Nutrition and Health as well as teaching in both Danish and English. Therefore, it is important that the candidate is fluent in both Danish and English.

The Associate Professor will be responsible for coordination of some of the research group’s activities in Uganda, Ethiopia and Tanzania, and assist with supervision of Master- and PhD-students. Frequent travelling may be necessary. The position may also include other duties.

Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required. Teaching qualifications in relation to trial methodology, including Good Clinical Practice and General Data Protection Regulation are required.

Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Commencing salary is currently up to DKK 485.154 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 82.961)

Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
