The Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen, invites applications for an associate professorship in Landscape Ecology and Landscape Management with a specific focus on the ecological and social base for policy making and management of agricultural landscapes.
The position aims at strengthening the field of planning and management of agricultural landscapes, within and across the disciplines that are central to research and teaching at the Department. These comprise environmental issues in the farmed landscape, including pollution of the aquatic environment, climate change, biotope management, structural and functional changes of the landscape, and sustainable food production. Further, the position should address subjects as policy making, spatial planning and governance, rural development, rural sociology and other disciplines in which the agricultural landscape and farmers are central in the practical implementation. A specific goal of this position is to bridge between the academic fields of policy making, spatial planning and landscape ecology.
As an applicant, you should have an international research profile and strong teaching experiences within one or more of the academic fields mentioned above. Experience with interdisciplinary research and teaching is a critical asset. You should have solid expertise within landscape ecology and one or more of the following fields: rural sociology, environmental planning, spatial planning, and policy making. As field work is expected to be conducted in rural area in Denmark knowledge of the Danish language is an advantage. Also experience with fieldwork methods and advanced GIS, including landscape modelling will be considered a strength. The applicant is expected to have broad knowledge on the relationships between farm practice as a social phenomenon, the landscape as a physio-biological phenomenon and public planning and regulation, including co-creative planning processes and regulation affecting agricultural landscape management.
As associate professor, you are expected be an internationally recognized researcher that has contributed to the relevant academic fields. You should have demonstrated good ability for attracting national and international research funding as well as having basic experience with research leadership.
You are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon your own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required. Moreover, you are expected to have contributed to developing and implementing academic courses within the research fields. Ability to conduct course teaching in Danish will be considered a strength.
Besides conducting own research, you are expected to contribute to the development of the research field, initiate and conduct research applications and explore the cross disciplinary potential within the department and the University of Copenhagen. You must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, conduct assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. You will also contribute to the development and execution of continued education programmes for non-university partners in government, civil society and the private sector. Further, you must take a responsible role in constructive implementation of department strategies, wellbeing and collaboration at the department, take part in department forums, committees and working groups and initiate and take part in scientific and social events.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
Commencing salary is currently
For Assoc. Professor up to DKK 481.751 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 82.379).
Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
