The Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen, is seeking to strengthen its focus on Human-Centered Computing. We are hiring a Professor in Human-Centered Computing. This position offers an opportunity to join a globally recognized, highly collaborative group of researchers working at the forefront of HCC. We are in Copenhagen, consistently recognized as one of the world’s most livable cities, in the country of Denmark, ranked as one of the top three happiest countries in the world.

Research areas of interest include mobile computing, computer-supported cooperative work, and sociological approaches to analysis of human-computer interactions.

The professor will work in the section for Human-Centered Computing. We are currently ten faculty. Our section aspires to be an outstanding research environment that bridges technology, theory, and empirical studies. We regularly publish at CHI, CSCW, TOCHI, JCSCW, UIST, and UbiComp.

The Professor must have an academic standing showing internationally competitive research that has had a significant impact. We expect that successful candidates will have had published consistently at high-ranking venues such as those mentioned above or comparable ones. Duties include the applicant’s research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and perform other services requested by the Department.  

The duties of a professor also include research-based teaching within the educational programs of the department (e.g., Computer Science, Communications & IT). Applicants are required to have university-level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon their teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including the ability to attract external funding will also be considered

Six overall criteria apply for professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for an overall assessment of the candidates. Terms of employment

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Negotiation for a salary supplement, and relocation expenses, is possible. Note that Denmark protects the economic, social, and physical well-being of its workers, which includes robust health care, child care, elder care, and other generous benefits. Thus, direct salary comparisons across nations are typically not meaningful. Furthermore, unlike some North American universities, University of Copenhagen appointments are 12 months in duration and thus require no need for faculty to procure summer funding.
