At the Department of Communication and Psychology, the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, Aalborg University, Copenhagen Campus a position as professor will be open for appointment from August 1st, 2023. The position will complement and extend the existing expertise within digital learning and game-based learning.


Job description

The primary workplace of the position is at the Copenhagen Campus. There will be teaching and research obligations both in Copenhagen and Aalborg Campus. Therefore, travel between Copenhagen and Aalborg must be expected.

The appointment will be a full-time position, which will include both research and teaching activities.

During the employment as a professor, the ideal/selected candidate will be expected to:

  • Deliver high quality research and publish research output of an internationally recognized quality
  • Undertake research leadership, including acquisition of external research funds and supervision of PhD students
  • Deliver high quality teaching, supervision, and associated examination, as required across the range of modules offered on the doctoral degree programme in Social Science and Humanitiers and on the Bachelor and Master programmes in Communication and Digital MediaIT, Learning and Organizational Change (ILOO)MA in Interactive Digital Media , and MA in Information Studies
  • Engage in external research networks and collaborations, nationally and internationally
  • Engage in knowledge collaboration within the portfolio of the position
  • Participate positively and constructively in the day-to-day activities of the Department of Communication and Psychology.

In terms of research, the position includes research at international level and applicants are expected to have research experience in at least three or more of the following areas:

  • Game-based learning
  • Digital games
  • Design for learning
  • IT literacy
  • Inclusion through IT.

In relation to research, applicants should document:

  • Original scientific production at a high international level with potential to contribute to the further development of the Department’s efforts in game-based learning, IT in inclusion, and IT and learning design.
  • Experience with research leadership and ability to attract external funding within the scientific portfolio or related areas.
  • A personal research plan which is consistent with the Department of Communication and Psychology’s research strategy, and which demonstrates the potential to develop new research projects.
  • the ability to develop external networks and collaborations, nationally and internationally.
  • the ability to engage in activities with actors outside academia to enhance the impact and outreach of research.

In relation to teaching, applicants should document:

  • Experience, skills, and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to deliver high quality teaching, using a range of pedagogical approaches including problem-based learning, project supervision, group work, interactive seminars, and lectures
  • Ability to teach, supervise, and assess written and oral performances in Danish, or qualify to teach, supervise, and assess written and oral performances within a foreseeable timeframe.

Aalborg University works with a problem-based learning approach (PBL) and documented experience with this learning approach will be welcome but is not a prerequisite.

In relation to general competences, applicants should also:

  • Document experience, skills or achievements which demonstrate the ability or potential to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Participate fully in the day-to-day activities of the Department, section and research groups, and encourage and foster a positive and collegial working environment
  • Demonstrate great written and oral communication skills.

The position will primarily be attached to the section Human Centred Science and Digital Technology.

Applicants should be able to work together with others and be capable of creating and sustaining relations with other researchers in an international research environment. Both national and international research networks will be advantageous. Applicants need to be willing to participate actively in all aspects of daily work in the Department. PROFESSORSHIP
The position as professor is a permanent position with obligation to research, teaching and publication/academic dissemination.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for a professorship are required to provide documentation of a substantial amount of original scientific production at international level, and documentation of significant contribution to the development of the research area in question. It is equally important that applicants are able to undertake research management or other kinds of management, pedagogical counselling and supervision as well as academic assessment tasks.

Assessment
All candidates will be assessed by an assessment committee. Applicants may subsequently be summoned to an interview and/or trial lecture.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not. The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question. When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.
