At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Materials and Production at Aalborg University, Aalborg Campus, one or more Assistant Professorships in the domain of Operations Management are available for a period of three years. The positions are open for appointment from January 1. 2022 or soon hereafter.

The assistant professorships are available in the general area of Operations Management, but with a special emphasis on topics such as sustainability, digitalization, and transformation of both internal and external operations.

The department is heavily involved in national and international research programs aimed at digitalization of industry. Therefore, collaborative skills and proven project management competencies are needed.

The responsibilities of the Assistant Professors will include:

  • Publishing in high ranked peer-reviewed journals and conferences as well as engaging in other forms and levels of research dissemination
  • Collaborating with colleagues on joined research projects,
  • Participating in attracting external research funding,
  • Developing methodologies and tools to transform advanced business process technologies into proactive operational capabilities. It is expected that the work will involve demonstrators in both industry and in our industry 4.0 laboratory.
  • Communicating the findings to the public in general and to industrial stakeholders in particular.
  • Take an active role in developing personal teaching skills and contributing to the further development of specific courses and study programs at the section. The teaching activities include teaching courses and supervising student projects in the bachelor program B.Sc.Eng. in Global Business Engineering and in the M.Sc. program in Management Engineering.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have excellent academic qualifications. Good analytical and technical skills, especially knowledge of and interest in industrial issues are essential. Experience in research within one, or preferably more, of the following topics will be prioritized:

  • Business Process Management
  • Sustainable Operations and Supply Chain Management
  • Digital transformation of companies
  • Innovation process design and implementation, including risk management
  • Data-driven modelling and simulation
  • Quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Previous experience with experimental research within manufacturing companies will be considered an advantage.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and international environment as an independent researcher.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in Danish and English.
  • Commitment, dedication, enthusiasm and ability to work efficiently both as a part of a team and independently.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

Shortlisting will be applied. After the review of any objections regarding the assessment committee, the head of department, with assistance from the chair of the assessment committee, selects the candidates to be assessed. Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
