The University seeks to appoint an associate professor to the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences to commence as soon as possible.

Information on the Department can be found at: https://ivh.ku.dk/  The associate professor will be part of the Parasites, Vectors and the Environment group at the Section for Parasitology and Aquatic Pathobiology which also includes groups of Veterinary Parasitology, Parasites, Immunology and Gut Health, Experimental Fish Models, and Aquatic Pathobiology.

Job description
The position covers the field of parasitology with a special emphasis on disease ecology, health and climate, and how hosts, vectors, parasites and other pathogens interact. The position aims to integrate modern methods in spatial modelling and experimental approaches within parasitology, to understand and predict how animal- and human parasitic diseases and vectors respond to climate- and other environmental changes. Through building of knowledge and capacity in this research field, the associate professor will contribute to new approaches for improved prediction modelling, monitoring and control of climatically sensitive diseases and vectors.

An interdisciplinary approach is essential and a broad knowledge of vectors and parasitology from a One-health perspective is required. A keen interest and willingness to do collaborative work within the section is essential, as well as having the ability to work interdisciplinary in a broader context. The candidate will be involved in a number of on-going, externally funded research projects and collaborations at both a national and international scale. Further, the candidate will participate in teaching and supervision.

The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

• Research, including publication and academic dissemination
• Research-based teaching, including associated examination and evaluation
• Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
• Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
• Academic assessments

Required qualifications
Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. Furthermore, each applicant must be able to document:

• Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
• Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
• Research-based teaching

The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

An applicant with the following merits and skills will be preferred:

• An active interest in parasitology and vector-biology, including solid experience with designing and executing fieldwork.
• Strong analytical skills and experience with geostatistical modeling of parasitic diseases
• Documented academic production at an international level, including considerable contribution to the field of modelling of impacts of climate change on parasitic diseases.
• A track-record in attracting external, competitive funds
• Teaching experience within parasitology and/or vector-biology
• Experience with research leadership and management of research projects and networks.

Terms of employment
The position is permanent. The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
