The University seeks to appoint a professor within Neuromedicinal Chemistry at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology to commence as soon as possible.

Job description

In considering applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document original scientific work at high international level and high ambitions in teaching development within the area of Neuromedicinal Chemistry.

The professor is expected to strengthen the research and education at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology and facilitate research across complementary and synergistic research disciplines, with focus on neuromedicinal chemistry including design and synthesis of ligands, molecular modelling, and radioligand development. Furthermore, the professor is expected to take active part in an organizational restructuring of the educations within pharmaceutical sciences.

The applicant should therefore have a strong research background in neuromedicinal chemistry, for details see “Desired qualifications”. Additionally, a proven track-record of strategic education development and leadership is required.

The professor is expected to be a committed and responsible member of our academic community providing research, education, innovation, and outreach activities to the society. The professor and group members will be an organizational part of the medicinal chemistry discipline and expected to be active in interdisciplinary research clusters and disciplinary teaching groups. The research clusters provide a departmental framework for scientific collaboration at high international level, and facilitate an inspiring scientific working environment. The professor is also expected be active in the Center for Medicinal Chemistry – an interfacultive initiative at the University.

The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

• Research, including publication/academic dissemination of results to the scientific community and to the general public
• Develop, organize, and conduct research-based teaching within the field of medicinal chemistry
• Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of students and researchers
• Engage in outreach and/or innovation activities both within the Department and towards academia, the clinic, and industry in general
• Being a committed and dedicated member of the Department’s academic community
• Obligation to share knowledge with society e.g., participation in public debate
• Academic assessments

Required qualifications

The applicant must be able to document:

• Original academic production at high international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline within: research, teaching, innovation, and outreach
• Leadership and/or management functions e.g., engagement in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer
• Development, organisation, and conduction of research-based teaching as well as supervision of students

The professor is also required to possess excellent interpersonal and communicative skills.

Desired qualifications

(i) Demonstrated ability to establish a research program and international network with focus on neuromedicinal chemistry, including design and synthesis of ligands, molecular modelling, and radioligand development

(ii) An established record in neuromedicinal chemistry in working with small molecules, peptides, and larger molecules such as antibodies

(iii) Documented expertise in supervision of students at all levels, and with development of courses and teaching in organic and medicinal chemistry

(iv) Documented expertise with strategic education development and academic leadership

Terms of employment

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee.  All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed on for assessment. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific position.
