The University seeks to appoint a senior researcher to the Globe Institute, the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences to commence as soon as possible.

The position includes working as a zooarchaeologist for the ArchaeoScience Unit, which advises and carries out scientific analysis for the archaeological museums in Denmark. Furthermore, the position include a research component on Danish and Greenlandic zooarchaeology. Consequently, the right applicant has a strong track-record in the analysis and publication of faunal remains, including fish and bird remains. The applicant also has the ability to carry out research and contribute to published and unpublished reports on materials from Denmark and Greenland. The person appointed to the position will partly analyse various faunal remains from excavations connected with contract archaeology as well as analysis for various research projects. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to continue the work of the ArchaeoScience Unit, as well as develop a personal research profile.
You will be expected to contribute to and participate with your own ongoing research projects.
The senior researcher’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Zooarchaeological analysis and written reporting on those results
- Research, including publication/academic dissemination
- Research-based teaching, including associated examination
- Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
- Academic assessments
Required qualifications and skills
Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. Furthermore, each applicant must be able to document:
- You have a PhD in Archaeology/Zooarchaeology or related
- You have documented research experience in Zooarchaeological analysis at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
- You have experience with fauna from Denmark and Greenland
- You have documented experience with research-based teaching
- You have teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
- Good English skills, written and spoken
- Fluent Danish skills, written and spoken
Desirable experience and skills
- Knowledge of carrying out scientific analysis on archaeological materials according to the guidelines of the Danish Ministry of Culture (Museumsloven, Chapter 8)
- A strong track-record in the analysis and publication of faunal remains.
The senior researcher is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.
Terms of employment
The position is permanent.
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
