Department of Public Health
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen
The University seeks to appoint a professor of palliative care and patient-reported outcomes in a 50% position to the Department of Public Health to commence as soon as possible.
Information on the Department can be found at: ">https://publichealth.ku.dk/ . The position as professor belongs to the Section of Health Services Research.
When considering applications for the professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific work at an international level within the areas of palliative care and patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Palliative care is an increasingly important part of health care and the importance of investigating the needs for and effects of palliative care in different groups of patients is widely recognised. PRO instruments (often called PRO measures, PROMs) are crucial for these purposes as well as more broadly for evaluating the impact of disease and health care interventions from the patients’ perspective.
These developments require methodological research underpinning all aspects of the use of PROMs: the measurement models and theories, conceptualisation of the domains to be measured, development and testing of new instruments, the validation of new and existing instruments in different settings, and the analysis and interpretation of results.
The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

Research, including publication/academic dissemination

Research-based teaching, including associated examination

Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers

Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate

Research-based public-sector consultancy may be required

Six overall criteria apply for professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates.
Manage research and other management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer

Provide research-based teaching

The professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.
