Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic, invites excellent scientists to apply for

POSTDOC POSITION

in Bioinformatics in Stem Cell Neurobiology

Who are we:

  • our Neurobiology group uses cellular models (human induced pluripotent stem cells) to study Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis in vitro . Our in vitro models include a large portfolio of neuronal cell systems, including 2D neurons and 3D cerebral organoids. We aim to study, and ultimately to understand, the mechanisms of AD initiation and potential treatment for AD
  • we focus on mechanisms of neuronal differentiation, cellular senescence, metabolism, endosomal trafficking, and pathogen infections and how these processes influence the pathobiology of AD
  • our research is hypothesis-driven, and we seek to complement our analytical tools with high-throughput bulk-mRNA/miRNA seq analyses as well as single-cell seq transcriptomics to fully exploit the potential of our unique model systems.
  • as a part of the job, we offer participation in the relevant Bioinformatics training at EMBL-EBI or similar
  • we collaborate with numerous Czech and International Laboratories, including Max Planck Institute, Germany; Aarhus University, Denmark; Amsterdam UMC, The Netherlands, and others
  • our team currently consists of 7 Post-doctoral researchers, 1 Research Scientist, 2 Ph.D. students, and 1 undergrad student, who are all proficient in their fields of expertise

  • have a publishing record – in the last 3 years at least 3 publication outputs ("articles") above the field median (at least 2 of them in Q1) listed by the Web of Science

Specific criteria:

  • a scientific degree in computational biology or bioinformatics, or related fields
  • strong interest in single-cell omics. Experience in applied NGS data analysis such as transcriptomics (RNA-seq, scRNA-seq), additional experience with other omics methods is a plus
  • demonstrable experience in programming languages required for data analysis (R and/or Python)
  • proficiency with Linux/Unix; bash scripts
  • experience in building and maintaining bioinformatics tools/pipelines is a plus
  • ability to propose innovative solutions and critically evaluate data
