The Department of Classical Studies at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic, invites applications for a full-time position of Assistant Professor, starting September 1, 2022. The position will be filled by a candidate with a completed PhD in Philology (Romance Languages and Literatures), or a related area of expertise.

Candidates must have proficiency in the Spanish and/or Italian language (level C1 or higher) and in English (B2), the knowledge of the Czech / Slovak Language is highly welcomed. The ability of independent research and publication work in the field of Romance Languages, Classical Philology, History of Romance Literatures, or/and Theory of Literature is required. A positive approach of the applicant to pedagogic activities and the ability to integrate scientific and pedagogic work is necessary.

Duties will include delivering lectures and seminar classes for the study programme Mediterranean Studies, research activities (including the publication and presentation of research results,) in the field of Romance Languages, Classical Philology, History of Romance Literatures, or/and Theory of Literature, supervision of qualification theses and promotion of the study programme. Activity in obtaining grant funds is expected and will be assessed positively.
