The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its four Research Centres: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC) and the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C). Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

The Water Division of the The Cyprus Institute's EEWRC invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the team as a Technical Research Specialist for Soil and Water Conservation. To improve our knowledge of hydrologic and ecosystems processes in a variable and changing semi-arid climate, the Division maintains a number of hydrologic, environmental and ecosystems monitoring observation stations in Cyprus. The successful candidate's main focus will be on applied field research activities related to the degradation, maintenance and construction of agricultural mountain terraces, in the framework of the REACT4MED project. The project is funded by the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) and involves agro-ecosystems restoration research activities in eight Mediterranean countries. The Technical Research Specialist will also support the maintenance of field and laboratory equipment and will conduct water, soil and plant observations in the field and analyses in the laboratory, in cooperation with researchers and graduate students of the Water Division.

The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 2 years with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

  • Field research activities on mountain terraces
  • Installation and maintenance of off-grid hydrologic, meteorological and ecosystem sensors and data loggers, data management and analysis
  • Water, soil and plant field sampling and laboratory analysis
  • Cooperation in the preparation of scientific publications
  • Cooperation with local stakeholders
