The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit, Science- and Technology-oriented Educational and Research Institution, based in Cyprus and governed by an acclaimed Board of Directors. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres, namely:

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated Researcher to join the Water Department of EEWRC Centre on a full-time basis (100%) for its premises in Athalassas Campus.
The successful candidate will be working in the framework of the Horizon Europe EUROSION Project ("European Soil Erosion Monitoring and Modelling Network for Sustainable Agricultural Land Management"). This project is a cooperation of 24 research partners from EU and associated countries, coordinated by Wageningen University.
In the framework of the EUROSION project we are establishing long-term wind and water erosion monitoring nodes in Cyprus.
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
- Contribute to the installation and maintenance of a runoff and suspended sediment sampling station in a 1km² mountain catchment
- Contribute to the installation of a wind erosion monitoring site in the agricultural plain during the June – November season
- Lead the sampling and analysis of soil and vegetation characteristics
- Participate in drone surveys and process and analyze 3D data
- Collect and analyze dust samples (MWAC samplers)
- Maintain automated erosion and meteorological equipment and analyze the data

Specific Requirements
Position Specific Required Qualifications:
- PhD degree in Earth, Environmental or Agricultural Sciences or a related field
- Proven experience in wind or water erosion field research (e.g., MSc/PhD project)
- Experience in using dataloggers and environmental sensors
- Experience in soil laboratory analysis
- Excellent programming skills (e.g., Python, R)
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Driver’s license
Position Specific Preferred Qualifications:
- Field experience with drone surveys
- Experience with processing drone survey data and construction of digital surface models
- Experience with use of Agisoft Megashape software or similar
- Skills in satellite-based image processing and analysis

Duration of appointment:
The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 24 months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds.
Remuneration details:
Salary Band: CYI4(1-9)
Position’s Starting Salary: CYI4.1 - €37688.69, CYI4.2 - €39506.61, CYI4.3 - €41324.66, CYI4.4 - €43142.58
