The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology oriented Educational and Research Institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its four Research Centers: The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center (STARC), the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC) and the Climate and Atmospheric Research Center (CARE-C). Considerable cross-center interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for Computational Engineers to take part in innovative and collaborative projects with academic and industrial partners that make use of advanced computing technologies. Candidates with a background in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) or High-Performance Computing (HPC) are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate(s) are expected to engage in research and development but also support other groups as part of the National HPC Competence Centre (NCC), in order to increase the uptake of advanced computing technologies by the scientific and industrial user communities. Beyond that, they will coordinate with other National HPC Competence Centers in EU member countries, participate in training and dissemination events. In addition, they will have the opportunity to work with leading experts in interdisciplinary AI applications, powered by HPC.

The rank of the position(s) will depend on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate(s). The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 2 years with the possibility of renewal. An internationally competitive remuneration package will be offered, which is commensurate with the level of experience of the successful candidate(s).

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:

The successful candidate(s) will be carrying out the following activities:

  • Apply algorithms for machine learning, data analysis and simulation for scientific and industrial applications.
  • Enable the analysis of big and structured/unstructured data sets using machine learning and data analysis algorithms that can be suitable for HPC infrastructure.
  • Enable researchers in academia and industry to exploit state-of-the-art AI technology and become familiar with large-scale computer infrastructures in Cyprus and on the European level.
  • Raise awareness of the utilization of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science algorithms and HPC for research and innovation through dissemination and training events.
  • The selected candidate(s) will be trained to deliver appropriate training for the academic, government and industrial sectors.
  • Prepare and present project specific progress reports.
