Assistant Professor for Energy

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) invites applications for new faculty members at the level of Assistant Professor for Energy, in Energy Research Division of EEWRC.  

The new faculty member is expected to advance the research and teaching agenda of CyI and of the Energy Research Division of the EEWRC. Principal focus of the envisioned research agenda is A) the development and utilization of renewable energy sources with an emphasis on technologies for harnessing, storing and efficiently utilizing solar energy, solar thermal-electric systems and/or  B) the utilization of renewable energy sources, in particularly solar for sea water desalination with emphasis to solar thermal process. 

The successful candidate will work in Cyprus. He/she will be offered tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an attractive salary and benefits package.  

Description of the Position

Duties and Responsibilities: 

The new faculty members will be responsible for: 

• Helping to shape the Energy Division’s research agenda by developing and implementing strategies appropriate to the Center’s missions and objectives, 
• Developing a world-class research program, in the stated fields of study and in accord with the mission and developmental plan of the Center, 
• Design and construct facilities appropriate to the research of the candidate, 
• Raising financial and other resources for the needs of the Energy Research Division from national and international sources, 
• Contributing to the educational mission of the EEWRC and of the CyI, 
• Initiating and sustaining high-level contacts with leading institutions throughout the world which conduct research in areas related to his/her respective fields.  

Qualifications:  

The successful candidate will be a PhD holder in a related field of Science or Engineerng, a scholar of international standing, with ideally a minimum of two years’ post-doctoral research experience, demonstrated ability to work independently and at an international highly competitive level and with the promise to develop into an international leader in his/her discipline. The selected candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills aimed at maintaining contacts in the academic, business and governmental circles. Proficiency in spoken and written English is indispensable. Knowledge of Greek will be considered an advantage.
