Offer Description

Postdoctoral researcher (male or female) to be employed for a fixed term until 31.05.2025., with a possibility of extension up to a maximum of 1 year since the day of employment in the case of approval form the Croatian Science Foundation (CSF),

The research will take place within the CSF project ''Plasmons and exciton-polaritons in quasi-2D crystals'' (IP-2020-02-5556) in the Surfaces, Interfaces & 2D Materials Research group at the Institute of Physics, Zagreb, Croatia. The topic of research is in the field of spectroscopy of electromagnetic excitations in multilayered composites of graphene and hexagonal boron nitride (Gr/hBN) or composites of tungsten disulfide and hexagonal boron nitride (WS2 /hBN).

The aim of the research is to theoretically investigate the intensities of electromagnetic modes (eg. plasmon-polaritons, exciton-polaritons and phonon polaritons) in gr/hBN and WS2 /hBN composites of various compositions and thicknesses and on various insulating surfaces (eg. Al2O3 ).  The theoretical methods that will be used are the RPA-GW-BSE method and the electrodynamic Bethe-Salpeter (RPA+ladder) method. The goal of the research is also to upgrade and improve the computer program for calculation of the RPA+ladder tensor of optical conductivity.

The candidate is expected to have experience in ab initio simulations of the electronic ground state and vibrational modes in 2D crystals (such as graphene or various transition metal dischalcogenides) using plane wave based ab initio software packages  (such as QuantumEsspresso or VASP).  The candidate is additionally expected to already have some experience in using RPA or GW-BSE methods to calculate the dielectric response and/or optical properties of 2D or 3D crystals.

Mandatory requirement: completed PhD in the field of natural sciences, field of physics (with focus on ab initio simulations of the electronic ground state and vibrational modes in 2D crystals)

The following must be attached to the tender application: 1. evidence of meeting the mandatory requirements 2. evidence of professional training, schooling and education (diploma) 3. letter of motivation with a brief description of scientific interests and plans 4. CV with a list of published scientific works indicating the candidate's strengths and experience 5. contact information of at least two scientists from whom a recommendation can be requested.

Candidates who exercise the right to priority in employment according to the Act on Croatian Veterans of the Homeland War and Members of Their Families (Official Gazette No.121/17 and 98/19, 84/21) and the Act on Civilian Victims of the Homeland War (Official Gazette 84/21) with the application for the competition, in addition to proof of fulfillment of the required conditions, they must also attach all the necessary evidence available on the link of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs:
