Offer Description

Doctoral student (Assistant) position in the Laboratory for Informatics and Environmental Modelling, at the Rudjer Boskovic Institute in Zagreb, Croatia. The PhD student will be associated with the Croatian Science Foundation (CSF) project  ‘Empowering ecological research via open science and meta-research (EcoOpen)’. The PhD candidate is expected to enrol in a doctoral study program Biology at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. The successful candidate should have average grades (at the undergraduate and graduate degree, or at the combined degree) that qualify the candidate to enter the doctoral study Biology program, and should be fluent in written and spoken English.

Skills/Qualifications

The successful candidate should have a completed appropriate graduate study in the fields of Biological sciences or Interdisciplinary natural sciences, have grades (at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, or equivalent) that qualify the candidate for the Doctoral Study Biology Programme (Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb), and have active knowledge in written and spoken English.

Specific Requirements

Preference will be given to candidates that: (i) participated in scientific research of national and international scientific groups, (ii) have scientific publications within the fields of natural sciences (biology), (iii) have basic knowledge of R programming language, (iv) actively participated in scientific meetings/conferences, (v) conducted outreach to the general public, (vi) have conducted the graduate project in the area of experimental biology and immunology.

In addition to the application form document, applicant needs to provide: Curriculum Vitae (CV), Diploma, Supplement (undergraduate and graduate, i.e. integrated studies) confirming which exams were passed and which grades obtained, e-mail address of at least one referee, and other evidence needed for satisfying position related selection criteria.

Selected candidates who have achieved their higher qualifications outside Croatia will be required, before the signing of the employment contract, to obtain the Ruling on the Recognition of Foreign Higher Educational Qualifications issued by the Agency for Science and Higher Education.

With an applicant for the position of Doctoral Student (Assistant position) who has already been employed in the position of Doctoral Student (Assistant position) in the Republic of Croatia, the employment can be contracted only on the remaining time of up to five years. Assistant is required to enroll in a postgraduate university study (doctoral study). The employment includes a six-month trial period.
