This opportunity requires an enthusiastic Film/Media professional and academic lead to drive the development of this subject area. This includes the BA Hons Film-making and BA Hons Media and Television Production Degree programmes at the HBU-UCLan School of Media, Communications and Creative Industries, which are located in a new purpose built facilities on the Hebei University campus in the city of Baoding in NE China

This post is primarily based in China, and candidates considering making an application should take into account the requirements to spend a minimum of 2 x 12 week sessions per year, in country, teaching face to face; directing the operation and further future development of these programmes, and providing inspiring face to face teaching.

HBU-UCLan School of Media, Communication and Creative Industries, is a non-independent status Joint School partnership between Hebei University, China and the University of Central Lancashire, UK (approved by the Ministry of Education China). Located in the historic city of Baoding, approximately 40 minutes from Beijing by fast train, the city is rapidly becoming a commuter base for Beijing and Hebei Province.

Established in 2014, the Joint School has around 800 students studying the following UCLan undergraduate degree programmes:

In 2022, the Joint School successfully validated three new Masters level programmes - 2 of which are currently being delivered in China (since September 2022).

The Joint School recently moved into a new purpose designed Art, Design and Media building on campus in Baoding which provides professional level, state of the art facilities for teaching, research and practice. These facilities include state of the art, professional level film production studios and editing suites

The highly successful UCLan research initiative ‘Research Centre for Cultural Preservation through Creative Practice’ is currently being developed out in China with high level research facilities provided within this partnership. This provides exciting new opportunities for staff to build research profiles within a unique, dynamic and cross-cultural environment.

THE ROLE

We are seeking an enthusiastic and resourceful Film and Media specialist to lead the two BA (Honours) degree programmes in Film-making and Media and Television Production, delivering undergraduate degree level provision at the Joint School.  This includes technical aspects such as camera work and studio operation, lighting, audio and sound, video and post-production, editing and film theory.

We require a forward-looking subject specialist who can inspire students to produce exciting future oriented creative content, and has a good understanding of emerging and future trends, technologies and platforms; also consumer behaviours and perceptions within this subject domain.

Our degree courses in Film-making and Media and Television Production prepares students for careers in this dynamic and rapidly evolving subject domain. Content and fresh ideas generation remains key, and this is an opportunity to work with highly motivated students in a part of the world which is re-imagining global culture. Working with committed and enthusiastic colleagues, you will lead and contribute to cutting edge research led curriculum design, sector leading course development and teaching and assessment methods which are underpinned by good scholarship. We require a forward-looking, research active subject specialist who is future orientated and has a good understanding of future trends, content and theme influences, and new technologies and media strategies within Film-making and Media and Television Production.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

The successful applicant should have a good honours degree in Film and/or Media, or other closely related discipline and a Masters level qualification in a related discipline. In addition, relevant practice based experience will also be taken into consideration.

A minimum of two years relevant experience of teaching Film and Media or similar discipline in a higher education environment, is essential to obtaining a working visa in China.

CITIZENSHIP AND VISA REGULATIONS

Lecturing posts at HBU-UCLan are regulated by Chinese Labour Law and Hebei Provincial Government regulations. These regulations stipulate that the post holder must have a Master’s degree qualification (in a related discipline) and minimum two year’s teaching experience in HE.

The post holder must comply with Chinese Labour Laws and Hebei Provincial Government regulations to obtain a Chinese work permit and entry Z visa (restrictions apply), this includes a Police/Criminal Records Check and Health Check. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal work with regards to obtaining work permits and visas. The regulations in this province may preclude people at or over the age of 60 from obtaining a PRC work visa.
