Offer Description

The School of International Communications is now seeking two exceptional scholars to join us as Professors in Creative Technologies.

About Us

The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) was the first Sino-foreign university to open its doors in China. Located in Ningbo, this award-winning campus offering a UK style education has grown to establish a student body of over 9,000 in just 20th anniversaries. Our vision is to be a university without borders, where we embrace the opportunities presented by a changing world, and where ambitious people and a creative culture will enable us to change the world for the better.

In an exciting time of development, we are looking to appoint two new Professors in Creative Technologies in the School of International Communications. A key component of UNNC, The School of International Communications is one of the leading Media and Communications Schools in China and Asia. The School excels in teaching, interdisciplinary studies, and social impact, and is affiliated to the Department of Culture, Media, and Visual Studies at the Nottingham UK campus.

Research at the School of International Communications is vibrant and multi-disciplinary. Our dynamic and collegial team is active in the fields of media and communication studies, film and television studies, journalism, mobile studies, and game studies. Our academics publish in highly-rated international journals and are the recipients of various international awards for teaching and research.

We have been graduating students for more than ten years and our alumni have continued their education in some of the world’s leading universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, worked for companies like Google or L’Oreal as well as having their creations broadcasted on HBO or awarded at the Busan International Film Festival.

The School of International Communications has entered a period of growth in terms of research activities, student numbers, and engagement with industries such as ARTURIA. We are developing a Virtual Production Studio in collaboration with ARRI as well as a Dolby Atmos studio and DCI Cinema. We are looking, therefore, for talented scholars to join our friendly, vibrant, and collegial team and help us in this exciting new development.

The role

The two new Professors in Creative Technologies will have the opportunity to play a key role in the leadership and development of the fast-growing School of International Communications. In the context of significant investment into a series of new labs in virtual reality production and filmmaking, new partnerships with industry, and plans for a new MA in Digital Screen Production, the appointees will help drive development in these key areas.

Strong candidates will have extensive personal research and teaching track records in at least one of the following areas:

  • Mixed reality production
  • VR/AR
  • Digital heritage
  • Immersive sound
  • Game design

They will share our values of independent thinking, creativity and inclusivity in their research and teaching, and will be committed to supporting colleagues, communicating with transparency, and empowering staff and students.

We value excellent educators, who are passionate about and innovative in their teaching and who can contribute to our high standards and broader teaching expertise in Creative Technologies. Our teaching is research-led and we are committed to cultivating and educating tomorrow’s global citizens with cross-disciplinary skills, an intercultural mind-set and inclusive values in order to lead meaningful lives with dignity and social mobility. This is a unique opportunity not only to contribute to the advancement of research in these areas, with institutional and industrial backing, but also to shape the futures of those who will rely upon it in their careers.

Remuneration, Benefits and Support

The successful candidates will be offered a five-year contract that may be extended by mutual agreement. We are committed to providing competitive employment packages while supporting the wellbeing of our staff to help them reach their full potential. We offer a competitive international salary package and a range of benefits and entitlements, including an employment support allowance to contribute to accommodation and home flight costs, insurance, schooling support, relocation & repatriation support, and paid annual leave.
