Postdoctoral Positions in Aeroacoustics at Peking University

Updated: over 1 year ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 10 Oct 2022

The Wave Physics Group at Peking University are inviting applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Position in Aeroacoustics. The successful applicant will be working with the PI, Dr Benshuai Lyu, on the modelling and simulations of jet noise and turbulent boundary layer trailing-edge noise. Research will be conducted in the gorgeous Yanyuan campus of Peking University, one of the two most prestigious universities in China. It would be a fantastic opportunity for those who would like to experience a different culture and unique working environment (research and instruction are in English). We offer highly competitive annual salary commensurate with experience. Candidates with a strong track record of research are supported to apply for the Peking University “Boya” Postdoctoral Fellowship (up to 300 awards each year for Peking University applicants), where successful candidates will enjoy extra salary and maintenance subsidies (up to £43K in total). Outstanding candidates who are keen to apply for the Natural Science Youth Fund and Postdoctoral Science Fund will be supported by the PI.

Position descriptions:

The successful candidates will be working on either analytical modelling and numerical simulations of jet noise and jet instability waves, or CFD of complex turbulent flows using Large Eddy Simulations (LES).

Requirements:

Applicants should

  • hold a recent PhD degree in physics, acoustics, fluid mechanics, applied mathematics and other related disciplines from a research-intensive university/institution. Preference will be given to applicants who have research experience in aeroacoustics and jet instabilities.
  • published a number of high-impact papers as the main contributing author in internationally recognized journals.
  • Have excellent writing and communication skills in English.
  • Salary:

    • A competitive annual salary up to £34K+ in total, negotiable according to experience.
    • Support will be given to those with a strong track record of research to apply for the Peking University “Boya” Postdoctoral Fellowship to enjoy additional salary and subsidies. See more about the fellowship at https://postdocs.pku.edu.cn/tzgg/134996.htm

The PI: Dr Benshuai Lyu (http://www2.coe.pku.edu.cn/faculty/benshuailyu/ ) is an Assistant Professor at College of Engineering, Peking University. He holds a PhD degree in Engineering from the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge under the supervision of Professor Dame Ann Dowling. Dr Lyu held postdoctoral and visiting research positions at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge and the California Institute of Technology, respectively. Research in the PI’s group focuses on a range of waves problems in aeronautical and energy fields, including aeroacoustics, flow instabilities and turbulence. Specific research interests include the physical mechanisms and mathematical modelling of subsonic and supersonic jet noise, turbulent boundary layer trailing edge and airfoil leading edge noise, jet instability, and flow decompositions. The group is committed to combining analytical tools such as complex analysis, integral transformations and asymptotic analysis with experiments to study the physical mechanisms of acoustic and fluid mechanical problems that carry significance to practical applications in the aerospace and energy fields.

Interested applicants please send a brief summary of your representative research, a CV and two letters of recommendation to [email protected]  with ‘Name + Postdoctoral Application’ in the subject line of your letter.
