Applications are invited for open-rank permanent and postdoctoral positions at the Department of Mathematics of Shantou University, to begin in 2023 (on a mutually agreed date). Applicants are required to have a PhD, and an established research record in mathematics or statistics. Duties include undergraduate and graduate teaching, independent research, and service. To be considered for permanent positions, applicants must be able to teach in Chinese.

The Department of Mathematics expects to have quite a few newly created permanent positions available in the coming years, due to university expansion. In addition, there will be several postdoctoral openings in every academic year.

Shantou is a city of Guangdong Province in Southern China. It is located on the Pacific coast and the Tropic of Cancer. The city has an urban population of 2 million (5 million in the area) and is well-connected to the rest of China by highway and high-speed railway. It also has an international airport that serves all over China and major cities in East and Southeast Asia.

Shantou University is established in 1981. The Department of Mathematics enrolled its first students in 1984. Currently, the university has a student population of 20,000. There are 38 faculty members, 5 postdocs, 480 undergraduate students (mathematics or statistics major), 120 master students and 36 doctoral students, in the math department. The research areas of faculty members include algebraic geometry, algebraic groups, number theory, complex analysis and harmonic analysis, PDEs, geometric analysis, complex geometry, algebraic and geometric topology, representation theory, dynamic systems, ergodic theory, numerical analysis, wavelets and frames, operational research, probability and statistics, data science, image processing etc.
