School of Humanities and Social Science invites applications and nominations for: Open Rank Faculty Position in Chinese Studies (Ref. AC2023/014/01), Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor (Tenure-stream). 

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in a relevant area of Chinese Studies (specialization areas including, but not limited to China studies, and/or traditional Chinese art, Chinese culture, Chinese language, Chinese history, Chinese literature, Chinese film, philosophy and religions). Applications are invited for faculty position at the rank of full professor/associate professor level with prospect for tenure and chair professorship, and are expected to have solid evidence of excellence in teaching/research/service, and a strong track record of sustained high-quality research/scholarship outcomes in the expertise area(s), as evidenced by research publications in competitive international outlets in the relevant areas of Chinese studies. In addition, candidates need to demonstrate academic leadership and strong commitment to the highest standard of excellence. Applicant for assistant professor position should have a proven record of teaching excellence and high-quality publications.

Successful applicants are expected to be able to teach a range of courses in core areas of Chinese culture studies. Experience in supervising postgraduate students will be favorably considered. 

Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, leading to longer-term appointment or tenure later, subject to successful performance evaluation and mutual agreement. In cases where a candidate has an established record of excellence and demonstrable potential for continued success, tenure may be offered to the candidate at the time of initial appointment. 

The appointee is expected to commence work in academic year 2023-24. 

Salary & Benefits 

Salary will be competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made under the establishment of CUHK, Shenzhen and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable in the People’s Republic of China. The appointee will be based at the University campus in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China.
