The School of Medicine at SUSTech was founded in 2019. It is positioned as an internationalized high-level research school of medicine featuring the integration of medicine with sciences, engineering, and humanities. Its mission is to train and foster leading medical talents who will possess ethical integrity, professional competence, and global vision. Taking advantage of the strong science and engineering disciplines of SUSTech, the School of Medicine will establish a system of ‘new medicine’ to achieve interdisciplinary development between medicine and engineering, the humanities and sciences, with ‘clinical medicine’ as the core focus. Through such integration of medicine with engineering, sciences, and the humanities and by drawing on the experience of medical education models both in China and abroad, the School of Medicine is striving to build itself into a base for cultivating world-class medical talents with multidisciplinary capabilities to meet the strategic demands for health development at the municipal, provincial and national levels.

The School of Medicine currently has over 280 employees. In the past two years, the School of Medicine has built a strong faculty team with thirty-six core tenured and tenure-track members, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and five chair professors. There are currently forty postdoctoral fellows, with expected rapid growth in the near future.

The School of Medicine has established eight departments, including the Department of Medical Neurosciences, Department of Pharmacology, Department of Biochemistry, Department of Human Cell Biology and Genetics, Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology, Department of Anatomy, Histology, and Embryology, Department of Pathology, and Department of Oncology. Additionally, the Department of Microbiology and Immunology is in development. It also has two specially designated scientific research platforms – the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory for Cell Microenvironment and Disease Research and the SUSTech Pain Medicine Center.

The School of Medicine currently has two core undergraduate education programs – clinical medicine and biomedicine, with several more to be developed in the next few years. The School of Medicine has ten hospitals with a direct affiliation or with a collaboration relationship. The main hospital of the School of Medicine, which will be adjacent to the School of Medicine, is currently under design, and its construction will start soon.

1. Department of Medical Neurosciences

The newly established Department of Medical Neuroscience at the School of Medicine, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) in China seeks applicants for multiple tenure-track/tenured faculty positions at the rank from assistant professor to full professor. Candidates pursuing research in all areas of neuroscience with medical relevance are welcomed to apply. Applicants should have a doctoral degree and relevant postdoctoral experience. They will be expected to establish an independent, internationally recognized research program and contribute to the undergraduate and graduate education. Joint appointments with affiliated hospitals are encouraged.

2. Department of Pharmacology

Following the overall positioning and development objectives of SUSTech, the School of Medicine has established the Pharmacology Department since April 2020. From day one of its establishment, the Pharmacology Department has worked hard to set up innovative platforms to recruit excellent pharmacology professionals who have a solid academic basis, the capability of making innovation, huge room for progress as well as development potentials, set up a first-class molecular pharmacology research base, and formed an efficient echelon of faculty members specialized in pharmacology.

Excellent scholars from both home and abroad are sincerely welcomed to join the Pharmacology Department at SUSTech. The specialties include but are not limited to molecular pharmacology, neuropharmacology, cardiovascular pharmacology, endocrinology pharmacology, tumor pharmacology，structure pharmacology, and drug metabolism.

In our newly established Department of Biochemistry, we welcome exceptional candidates in any areas of biology including protein design, structural biology, protein misfolding diseases, translational biology, proteomics, cancer, chromatin biology, protein trafficking and metabolism. We offer excellent research resources in many areas with state of art core facilities, including cryo-EMs. The successful candidate should have a record of outstanding research creativity and productivity, and is expected to establish an innovative, cutting-edge research program. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree, demonstrated research excellence, and strong teaching ability. 4. Department of Human Cell Biology and Genetics.

The newly established Department of Human Cell Biology and Genetics at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) School of Medicine was established in July 2020. It aims to nurture future scientists, foster innovative research, and serve society. Positions at all ranks are available immediately: The department invites applications for full-time tenure-track or tenured faculty positions at the assistant professor, associate professor, and professor in cell biology or genetics.

Applicants for tenure-track positions should have a doctoral degree and postdoctoral training in biomedical sciences. They should have also demonstrated outstanding potential in innovative research and quality teaching. Applicants for tenured Professors or Associate Professor positions should have a track record of independent research, extramural funding, classroom teaching, and excellent publication record. Chair professorship is available for exceptional candidates.
