Assistant Professor: 29,046-31,993 RMB/month (with the opportunity to go to 35,588 RMB/month based on future annual performance and evaluations after being in the post)

UNIVERSITY AND DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a unique collaborative institution and the first joint-venture university in China to offer both UK (University of Liverpool) and Chinese (Ministry of Education) accredited undergraduate degrees for all programmes. Formed in 2006, the first cohort of students graduated in August 2010. The University now has almost 15,000 students studying on campus. The language of instruction is English. XJTLU aims to become truly research-led and has recently committed significant investment into research development and the expansion of PhD student numbers on campus.

XJTLU is located in the Higher Education Town of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP). Suzhou has been ranked the 74th most liveable city in the 2018 Global Liveability Index. Additionally, it is well-connected via nearby airports to cities such as Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, and Taipei, and via high-speed rail to other major cities in China. SIP is a major growth zone, including operations run by nearly one-fifth of the Fortune 500 top global companies. Greater Suzhou is now the fourth largest concentration of economic activity in China in terms of GDP, and the SIP has a higher GDP per capita than the UK. The broader Suzhou area encompasses the spirit of both old and new in China, with the historic old town’s canals, UNESCO World Heritage Site gardens, and the I.M. Pei-designed Suzhou Museum attracting millions of tourists annually. SIP offers an excellent quality of life with high environmental standards. The nearby Jinji Lake provides attractive views, by day and by night, and there is a variety of shopping facilities, international and local restaurants, entertainment hubs and nightlife. Suzhou is also home to four international schools.

The Academy of Future Education of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is an educational innovation ecosystem that focuses on research, exploration, support, and dissemination of philosophy and best practices for future education. The core mission of the Academy is to impact education innovation and reform in China and beyond through a variety of projects and programmes, based on fundamental approaches in educational innovation and systemic development designed to contribute to the future of education. The Academy supports individuals and institutions at all levels, including all the K-15 schools as well as vocational education and higher education institutions.

Four units make up the Academy, namely the Department of Educational Studies (EDS), Institute of Leadership & Education Advanced Development (ILEAD), Educational Development Unit (EDU), and Learning Mall (LM). Key projects of the Academy include the following programmes:

• Master’s and doctoral degree programmes in education
• Research projects on future education
• Education innovation community
• Professional development programmes for educational practitioners
• Student learning excellence support programmes
• Online-onsite hybrid learning environment and resources

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Applications are invited for the Assistant Professor position in the disciplinary topic of education management at the Department of Educational Studies, Academy of Future Education at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, a joint venture established in 2006 by the University of Liverpool, UK and Xi’an Jiaotong University, China.

The Department of Educational Studies is looking for future colleagues from candidates in all the fields of life-long education and professional development; student-centered education and educational experience; technology-enhanced education; education management and leadership, and other relevant fields who can:

• Embrace innovative, interactive, student-centered learning, teaching, and assessment approaches. 
• Understand and have an innovative spirit and transformational approach in education, in line with the ethos of XJTLU and the Academy of Future Education.  
• Deliver high-quality teaching to graduate students, have a track record in teaching and evaluation as examples.
• Supervise postgraduate students in thesis and dissertation.
• Conduct high-quality research and be able to evidence the ability or potential to produce high-quality research publications.
• Provide administrative services as expected at all levels to the School, the University, and its stakeholders, and support extra-curricular activities for students, staff, and discipline as expected. 
• Demonstrate appropriate professional experience.
• Perform all other duties assigned by the supervisor or manager. 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

• Applicants with a terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., EdD) from a wide range of areas, including life-long education and professional development; student-centered education and educational experience; technology-enhanced education; education management and leadership, or other relevant areas, are welcome.
• Fluent in English.
• Teaching experience at the postgraduate level, particularly on master's degree programmes.
• Able to work in a diverse and dynamic environment where cross-team or cross-department collaboration is encouraged. 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

• A track record in research on life-long education and professional development; student-centered education and educational experience; technology-enhanced education; education management and leadership or related areas is preferred.
• A research focus and teaching experiences on educational entrepreneurship and research methodology are desirable.
• Administrative and leadership experiences at schools or university contexts are desirable. 

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

Members of Academic Staff are entitled to subsidies for accommodation, travel, and children’s education, medical insurance, and a one-time relocation allowance is provided. Overseas staff may receive a tax “holiday,” depending on nationality and personal circumstances.

CITIZENSHIP AND VISA REGULATIONS:

Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labour Laws, and must be comply with the regulations with the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment with regard to obtaining work permits and visas.
