Faculty position in astroinformatics

The Center of Astronomy (CITEVA) at Universidad de Antofagasta invites applications for a faculty position in the field of astroinformatics. The laureate will be an ambitious academic with an outstanding record of leading independent investigations at the forefront of research, eager to attract external funding, enthusiastic about working with postgraduate students, and keen on developing innovative courses in our PhD in Astrophysics and Astroinformatics and in our MSc in Astronomy. We are especially looking for candidates who can combine their expertise in astroinformatics with other active fields of research in CITEVA. We prefer candidates with a strong team spirit who are interested in engaging with the public and are capable of building strong collaborations with the Chilean and international community. Most activities in CITEVA can be carried out in English, including postgraduate teaching. However, all staff members are expected to become able to effectively communicate in Spanish and to participate in all aspects of CITEVA’s work, including teaching, research, management, and outreach.

Antofagasta is a rapidly expanding coastal city in northern Chile on the edge of the spectacular Atacama desert. The new faculty member will have access to the 10% time on current and future international observatories built in Chile (ESO, Las Campanas, CTIO, Gemini, ALMA, ELT, GMT, etc.) along with full access to SDSS-V and LSST, as well as access to local and national computing facilities.
