Wheat Genetics, Genomics and Breeding (Disease)

Primary Purpose: The Durum Wheat Genetics and Breeding team led by Professor Dr. Curtis Pozniak at the University of Saskatchewan (USASK), Crop Development Centre (CDC) is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to conduct research in genomics and molecular biology to address biological questions in disease resistance and genome biology. Our mission is to translate these biological findings into improved wheat cultivars. 

Nature of Work: The successful candidate will work to expand our knowledge of wheat biology by conducting genetic and molecular studies of disease resistance in the primary and secondary gene-pool of wheat. 

 Accountabilities: The candidate will work to assess detailed phenotypic responses to disease, perform genetic mapping experiments, and conduct comparative analysis of high-quality genome assemblies of wheat and its related species.  Gene characterization, including gene-editing experiments to assess function will be a priority.

Education: PhD degree in one or more areas of plant genetics, genomics, pathology, bioinformatics, or a related discipline 

Experience: Applicants should have demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: assessment of disease resistance, generation and analysis of complex genomes, and functional analysis of candidate genes. 

Skills: Successful candidates must have excellent communication skills, excellent writing skills, and are expected to work as part of a large multidisciplinary, diverse team.
