Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Communications and Content Editor, the Web Content Developer and Trainer plays a key role in developing and implementing the web presence of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS).
This person works closely with the Communications team in FASS and the Web Services team in Information Technology Services (ITS).
The Web Content Developer and Trainer is responsible for production and maintenance of all FASS websites within the Carleton’s Content Management System (CMS) framework; while leveraging the latest web methodologies, tools, and techniques.


Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Strong Content Management Systems (CMS) experience, specifically WordPress experience and experience with plugins;
• Excellent project management skills;
• Experience with image editing and graphic software for the web;
• Experience and the ability to advise and guide faculty, staff and students on web content;
• Experience delivering training sessions;
• Demonstrated excellent written and oral communications skills;
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in social media;
• Demonstrated experience creating content for the web;
• Excellent knowledge and expertise with the following software: WordPress; Google Analytics, Adobe Creative Suite, SiteImprove. Knowledge of HTML and PHP is an asset;
• Awareness of web accessibility standards and how to implement them.
• Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and prioritize demands;
• Must possess excellent problem solving skills and the ability to find solutions to emerging issues in a timely manner.

The incumbent must know WordPress inside and out and learn how Carleton’s WordPress framework is unique. Knowledge of this framework is necessary to provide support to Faculty departmental website administrators.

Additionally, the candidate must have knowledge on how to help and support Faculty departmental web administrators with the following:
• Content strategy
• Information architecture
• Social media tools/channels (YouTube, Twitter, Instagram)
• Graphic design
• SEO
• W3C Accessibility standards
• Google Analytics


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• Completion of an undergraduate degree, preferably in the Arts and Social Sciences, or an equivalent combination of training, education and work experience.
• A minimum of five (5) years related web content development and communications experience.
