OPEN COMPETITION

Carleton University’s Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities is searching for an innovative candidate with excellent interpersonal skills for the Trans and Non-binary Inclusion Coordinator full-time term position.

The successful candidate will support trans inclusion across Carleton University to achieve the goals set out in the trans inclusion work plan. In addition to liaising with the Carleton Trans Advocacy Group (CTAG), who will act as an advisory group for the incumbent and the Senior Advisor, Gender and Sexual Violence Prevention and Support. The incumbent will also support the development and facilitation of workshops on trans community needs for members of the Carleton community.

The role involves triaging comments and incident reports submitted through the Trans Hub to the appropriate stakeholder and ensures a resolution is reached in a timely pattern. In addition to consulting with members of Equity and Inclusive Community’s Case Management team on issues of trans inclusion as it pertains to the University Human Rights Policy and the Sexual Violence Policy. The ideal candidate will have in-depth experience working with diverse populations within an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and intersectional lens. The role requires extensive knowledge and experience of trans, Two Spirit, nonbinary, intersex, and/or gender-nonconforming communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible to support trans inclusion at Carleton by facilitating the implementation of the trans inclusion work plan and future priorities outlined by Carleton’s trans community. Responsible for liaising and coordinating with key campus stakeholders to achieve the deliverables set out by the plan and support the consultation process.


Qualifications:

• Knowledge or experience of trans, Two Spirit, nonbinary, intersex, and/or gender-nonconforming community advocacy
• Knowledge of gender violence and gender-based violence, and its impacts from an intersectional, anti-racist, and anti-oppression lens
• The above may be acquired through educational preparation at the post-secondary level, however this knowledge may also be achieved directly through applicable work in the community
• Knowledge and experience working within an anti-oppression, anti-racist, and intersectional lens
• Ability to work and partner with a variety of partners, including facilitators, youth and adult community members and service providers
• Superior interpersonal and problem-solving skills; strong attention to detail
• Demonstrated excellence in written communication
• Demonstrated excellence in oral communication
• Demonstrated excellence in organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills
• Demonstrated excellence in and familiarity with Microsoft Office, Excel, Publishing programs, website maintenance and social medial platforms


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of Bachelor’s degree, along with a minimum of two years of related experience working with community services, programs and resources available to trans and nonbinary communities. Lived experience will be considered critical for this role. Knowledge or experience of trans, Two Spirit, nonbinary, intersex, and/or gender-nonconforming community advocacy.


HR Note:

Trans and Non-binary Inclusion Coordinator is a full-time one-year term position within the Non-Union employee group. The full salary range is provided, however the starting salary will be between the minimum and the mid-point ($66,362 - $76,316) and based on the selected candidate's qualifications and other compensation factors, including internal equity. The total compensation package includes competitive extended health and dental benefits, annual and sick leave, life insurance, and unique perks such as tuition benefits and access to the fitness facilities at Carleton.

Important Note Regarding Pandemic Related Operations:

This position is required to work on campus. Exceptionally, since March 2020, many staff and faculty at Carleton University have been working from home in order to comply with public health requirements while continuing to provide services to support the operational functioning of the university. We are currently in the process of identifying positions that need to work on campus as part of our return to campus process. This position may be required to work temporarily remotely due to public health requirements or it may have been identified as one of the roles that are required to work on campus. If this position is required to work on campus, the successful candidate will be informed of the health and safety measures that are in place to ensure their safety on campus. If there is a requirement to work remotely (it is possible that there could be a requirement to work both remotely and on campus), the successful candidate will work with the manager to set up a remote work environment including discussing appropriate technology and requirements. Please note that once public health requirements permit, Carleton University will resume normal on campus operations and at that point there will be a timely notification provided by the manager and the requirement to working full time physically onsite will resume. Therefore, we are looking for candidates currently in or looking to relocate to the Ottawa area.

Additionally, Carleton University is continuing to maintain a safe work environment and requires mandatory vaccination against COVID-19 as per Public Health recommendations under the Reopening Ontario Act. As Carleton University requires that staff be available to attend on-campus meetings and to work, as required, in person, the successful candidate will be required to comply with this policy and be fully vaccinated before commencing employment.
