The Canada Research Chairs (CRCs) were established by the Canadian Government to foster research excellence (https:/www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/ ). Tier 1 Chairs, tenable for seven years and renewable once, are for outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields. The successful candidate must have a documented, outstanding research record, leading an internationally-recognized research program that is aligned with the University of Alberta’s Strategic Plan. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in an area of Science. They must either hold the rank of full professor, or hold the rank of associate professor or expect to be promoted to full professor within one or two years of the nomination date. They should demonstrate an excellent record of publications in reputable, high-quality, high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and conferences. They should provide evidence of established teaching and trainee mentoring skills. They should have a demonstrated record of service at the departmental, institutional, national, and/or international levels. Ideally they should also have a record in participating or leading large-scale, potentially interdisciplinary, research initiatives.

The successful applicant will be nominated for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair. Nominations are subject to review by the CRC Secretariat, and appointment as a Canada Research Chair is conditional upon their approval.
