Position Summary:

The Technical Specialist in Strength and Conditioning Sport Performance will be responsible for assisting in the design, delivery and monitoring of performance services that enhance the physical preparation of McGill’s varsity student-athletes across sports.  Female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply as the position includes the servicing of McGill Martlets athletic teams, and advancing Women in Sport programming related to strength and conditioning.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan, assist and/or implement various programs or initiatives that support the strength and conditioning department, and/or varsity office.
  • Meet regularly with coaches, athletes and IST members to guide program planning and ensure programming objectives are being met on a team and individual level.
  • Demonstrate the technical requirements to assist in, or lead, performance training sessions that encompass strength, conditioning, speed, agility and mobility.
  • Aid in the collection, assessment, and analysis of athlete testing and monitoring data. 
  • Assist with on-site, and remote, strength programming, providing adjustments based on individual/team needs, position/sport demands, and monitoring data collected.
  • Monitor training in the varsity weight room, maintain good rapport, and a presence in the performance training spaces.
  • Assist with the organization, cleanliness, and general equipment maintenance of the performance training spaces.
  • Stay current with knowledge, trends, and best practices that are necessary to assist with building, and maintaining, winning programs that challenge for national championships.               
  • Interact with and support department initiatives and/or attend events/activities as requested.
  • Assist with the internship program by providing mentoring and education to students when applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned by the strength and conditioning coach.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

  • B.Sc. Kinesiology/Human Kinetics/Exercise Science
  • Previous training/coaching experience (1+ years) with athletes, in a high-performance or multi-sport environment.
  • A current strength and conditioning certification, such as; NSCA - CSCS (National Strength and Conditioning Association - Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach), or CSEP High Performance Specialist
  • Familiarity with sports performance technologies and strength and conditioning software, such as Teambuildr.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including days, evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Previous experience in a team sport setting as a coach or athlete, specifically at the post-secondary level
  •  Awareness of the post-secondary environment, rules, regulations, process, and administration.
  • Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
