Position Summary:

The Technical Specialist in Strength and Conditioning for Redbirds Football will be responsible for aiding the Strength and Conditioning Coach in the implementation of performance and development initiatives that help ensure the physical preparation of McGill’s varsity student-athletes.  This position primarily focuses on the Redbirds Football program, but may include supporting other varsity teams, and department initiatives

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsibilities/Tasks – Football Focus

  • In collaboration with the strength and conditioning coach, physiotherapists, and McGill Redbirds football coaches, assist in the planning, design, implementation and monitoring of the team’s periodized strength and conditioning program.
  • Lead and monitor strength and conditioning group sessions for Redbirds football.
  • Attend a designated number of football IST or program planning meetings per month, as requested.
  • Utilize McGill’s online strength and conditioning software/portal and onboard athletes as requested.
  • Implement athlete monitoring and testing strategies as discussed.

Assigned Responsibilities – Varsity Sport Focus

  • Assist McGill student-athletes utilizing the varsity weight-room (non-football) when present and available to do so.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, inclusive and optimal training environment.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

  • B.Sc. Kinesiology/Human Kinetics/Exercise Science
  • Valid NSCA- Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification or equivalent
  • Valid level C CPR and Standard First Aid Certification
  • Experience as an elite athlete and/or developing and delivering evidence-based strength & conditioning programs
  • Experience working with athlete programming, monitoring and management technology.
  • Able to demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively, such as with coaches, staff, sport med professionals, and student-athletes.
  • Experience coaching, teaching and/or directing student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
