Job Description

Reporting to the Manager of Team Coaching, and working closely with the academic units, the Team Coach supports the team-based learning approach identified in Royal Roads University’s Learning and Teaching and Research Model. The Team Coach facilitates face-to-face and online team development sessions (theoretical and practical) with students across programs and faculties, delivers team and individual coaching support, and contributes to the ongoing creation of academic teamwork resources.

Using the Royal Roads’ Teamwork Competencies and Skills Framework, the Team Coach proactively provides students with an understanding of, as well as tools for, the development of academic teamwork skills. The Team Coach collaborates with the Team Coaching team to ensure a consistent, integrated support service to students in addition to contributing to the refinement of processes and structures. The Team Coach works with Student Services colleagues to support departmental student success initiatives.

Job Requirements
  • Master’s degree (desired) or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, and three (3) years’ experience working in a post-secondary setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five (5) years facilitation experience with adults of diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to engage adult learners using a coach approach (team coaching certification an asset).
  • Demonstrated understanding of the theory and practice of academic teamwork competencies and skills.
  • Proven skills in areas of relationship-building, creative problem-solving, conflict management, and having difficult conversations with a high level of diplomacy and discernment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deal sensitively with situations that require compassion and tact. 
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence (cultural diversity training an asset). 
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues – both faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work effectively in online, hybrid and face-to-face environments.
  • Flexibility to work on weekends and evenings as required for residencies and urgent team issues.  

Additional Information
This is a temporary, part-time position working 22.5 hours per week (0.6 full-time equivalent) for a 1-year term from April 2024 until March 2025. This position has been evaluated at MPT-C with a salary range of $74,204 (minimum) to $87,204 (midpoint) to $100,203 (maximum) per annum. The salary will be pro-rated to a 0.6 full-time equivalent. Employment offers will normally be made between the minimum and midpoint of the range and are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
