Position Summary:
The Teaching Assistant will work closely with co-instructors to respond to students’ needs and concerns throughout the course, and to assess students’ work.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Attend and participate in the weekly 1-hr course meetings with co-instructors.

  • Complete course readings in order to participate in weekly lectures.

  • Answer students’ questions (including emails) pertaining to course material and assessment.

  • Correct student assessments in a timely fashion in collaboration with instructors.

  • Accountable for professional, timely, and confidential use and accurate entry of student marks in the FSCI 500 Grade Book in myCourses.


Qualifications:

Strong candidates will have experience with engaging the public with science. These experiences may include crafting science communication texts or podcasts, leading or facilitating science outreach activities, development of science-related curricula or other related activities. Must have good organizational skills and excellent communication skills

Education: Completed undergraduate degree in science, education, arts, or other related field.

N.B.: Please note that given the resumption of most in-person teaching activities, Teaching Assistants will be required on campus to perform their tasks in person. Should government restrictions prohibit the resumption of in-person teaching activities, courses will revert to remote teaching. In the event of such a change, Teaching Assistants will be advised as soon as possible.  Teaching Assistants may be required to perform tasks suited to a remote/online teaching environment using a virtual learning platform [e.g., Zoom, WebEx] and the McGill myCourses learning management system.
