Teaching Assistant—ENVS 806

Duties and Accountabilities
The nature of the work is immediately associated with the support and delivery of instruction of ENVS 806 Field Skills.


Reporting to the course instructor (Dr. Vladimir Kricsfalusy), the TA’s general duties and responsibilities will be to:

  • Communicate with students about lectures and activities, course content, project work, assignments, and deliverables.
  • Support field work activities.
  • Participate in discussions with students; attend synchronous sessions and facilitate breakout groups; support asynchronous learning.
  • Grade assignments (if needed).
  • Manage CANVAS and online content.

Required Number of Hours: up to 36 hours
Duration of Employment: Spring 2024 session
Start and End Dates: 20 May to 14 June 2024

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience conducting field work and familiarity with using GPS units
  • Must have a valid license to drive in Saskatchewan
  • Should, ideally, have experience in rangeland and wetland assessment
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills—proficiency with computer applications and software including Microsoft applications, CANVAS, Zoom.
  • Ability to support diverse and inclusive classrooms
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
  • Proven ability to ensure deadlines are met

Qualifications

  • Ideally, be a PhD student although Master’s students will also be considered
  • Current grade point average of 80% or higher
  • Must be located in Saskatoon as the position requires in-person support/attendance
  • Previous teaching assistant experience would be an asset.
