Position Summary:


Under the direction of the Manager Building Envelope, the Supervisor will offer support in the management of corrective and preventative maintenance of all systems and sub-systems related to the building envelopes; facades, foundations, roofs of patrimonial as well as modern buildings. This includes collaborating with internal and external resources involved with the maintenance, upkeep, investigation and repair of the building envelope. Liaise with the building directors to ensure that the investigations and subsequent corrective measures are taken with respect to the operating schedule of the university’s primary teaching responsibilities. The work is to be performed in accordance with related McGill standards.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate vendors Proposals;

  • Supervise the work of external Engineers, Architects and Contractors involved in the inspections of campus buildings;

  • Collaborate directly with vendors to correct major deficiencies;

  • Identify building envelope deficiencies, monitor site inspections and ensure the implementation of remedial measures to be carried out in an effective, timely and efficient fashion;

  • Perform and organize activities to support the daily operations of the unit ensuring that functions are carried out in accordance with established goals and objectives;

  • Collaborate with the manager for the timely inspection program for all subsystems; Maintain records on the progress of such inspections;

  • Analyze reports on the progress of the inspections and make recommendations on delivery requirements;

  • Ensure that  safety measures and procedures are followed;

  • Advise the other university services involved in the security and operation of the university campus;

  • Oversee new façade inspections mandated by the 2012 decree on building safety;

  • Use professional expertise to translate recommendations into actionable items;

  • Participate at meetings, make recommendations and provide solutions.


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Proficiency in architectural and engineering detailing of building plans, elevations and sections is mandatory. Experience in façade rehabilitation and maintenance. Technical skills in the preparation of plans using AutoCAD. Ability to work in a PC environment using MS Office. English and French spoken and written. Degree in (Building Science – Architecture or Structural Engineering) is an asset. Three (3) years related experience is an asset.
