Description:

This module is intended to introduce students to several real-life health economics challenges from various (clinical, academic, policy, and private) healthcare organizations in Toronto (parent organizations). The module will be guided by the principles of the experiential/integrative/problem- based learning (PBL), a student-centered approach in which students learn about a subject through the experience of solving real-life/open-ended problems. The students will closely interact with the representatives from the parent organizations to explore the pipeline of value-based decision making and to find solutions to the proposed challenges. During this course, the students will learn the key health economics concepts used in decision making and policy framing as a way to help them understand how societies make choices about health and healthcare funding.

Estimated course enrollment:  ~ 25 students

Class schedule:  2-hour seminar-style workshops; occurring Thursdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm throughout May and June

Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term -$4,965.40
Sessional Lecturer II - $5,060.88
Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term - $5,163.31
Sessional Lecturer III - $5,181.38
Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term - $5,285.01

Minimum qualifications:  PhD with equivalent professional and/or academic experience is preferred.

Description of duties:  Preparation and delivery of course content, including seminars; creation of courseware; the development and administration of assignments, marking and evaluation of proposals, reports and reflections, maintenance of reasonable hours of student contact outside of scheduled contact hours, supervision of day-to-day work of project groups.
