Job Description

Overview:  Students who are interested in peer/student advising, networking with advisors within and outside the faculty, student support systems across the campus community, Faculty members, and employers. As well as students that are looking to further develop their communication and planning skills are encouraged to apply.


Summary of Role

The Student Services & Co-op Assistant will support the entirety of the Student Services Team through writing and creating the monthly newsletter, liaising with a variety of different groups both on and off-campus as well as employers and students regarding job postings, interviews, and offers, and assisting students by implementing and supporting resume, cover letter, and interview skills workshops.


Responsibilities Could Include:
  • Schedule and coordinate interviews between employers and co-op students;
  • Compile and create content for the TreeRings Newsletter
  • Maintain, update, and organize student files
  • Assist students with their cover letters, resumes and interview preparation
  • Enter jobs in the Hub, the Forestry Co-op online jobs portal;
  • Follow up with students regarding missing forms, workshops, image requests, and co-op due dates;
  • Promote and regularly maintain the @forestrycoop Instagram page – there should be one post a day preferably with a picture submitted by one of our co-op students;
  • Design and send various emails targeted to students and employers while maintaining brand consistency and text guidelines;
  • Assist with coordinating virtual events, such as but not limited to Co-op Presentation Nights, Get Hired, social activities in order to create community in this online environment and/or academic supports for students feeling that that they could benefit from a study group and others;
  • Assist with creating and managing a weekly calendar on the Canvas non-credit course that we enrolled our students in with “What’s up in Student Services this week”
  • Assist with creating and managing the non-credit canvas course for all forestry students a bulletin/message board for them to exchange message s or to give us comments and feedback
  • Support the Student Services team as needed

Job Requirements
Required Skills
  • Ability to take initiative, and work with little supervision;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills required;
  • Knowledge of creating strategic marketing & communications plans to administer the Instagram page, email marketing blasts and monthly newsletters;
  • Able to prioritize tasks with a very high attention to detail;
  • Full functional proficiency with PowerPoint, Word and some knowledge of Mailchimp, Flickr, Twitter and Adobe Photoshop;
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to manage volunteers and students at various high profile events.
  • Confidence and ability to communicate appropriately with students, faculty, employers, and co- workers;
  • Must be able to stand in front of a group and introduce employers to students;
  • Able to use basic statistical analysis to compile data for the co-op newsletter, and the Forestry Co-op Instagram Account;
  • High level of confidentiality and professionalism required.

Start Date: September 1, 2021
End Date: April 30, 2022 or August 31, 2022
Salary: $2500 per month
