Position Details
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science invites applications for a tenure track position in Statistics at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin, subject to budgetary approval, either January 1, 2024 or July 1, 2024. Hiring salary will be in the range of $79,132-$92,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate the potential to develop a research program in their area of specialty. It is preferable they have a Ph.D. in Statistics (or a related area) at the time of appointment. There are several departments and programs within the university with which collaborations could be possible (e.g. Data Science, Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Economics, Geography & Environment, Kinesiology & Physical Education, Mathematics & Computer Science, Neuroscience, Psychology, Faculty of Health Sciences and the Dhillon School of Business). Candidates are invited to share their interest and capability to work or collaborate with any of these groups or with Industry.
The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses within our Applied Statistics program. As such, experience with both large service courses as well as more senior courses is valued. Furthermore, the candidate should have the desire and capability to contribute to the development and curriculum of our Applied Statistics program.
The University of Lethbridge has a focus on experiential learning. We are seeking a candidate with an interest in mentoring undergraduate students including through the supervision of independent studies. Any mentorship experience, academic or otherwise, is an asset. An interest or past involvement in outreach is also welcome.
Finally, the successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to the advancement of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion; ideally this would be apparent in all aspects of the application.

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has an enthusiastic faculty focus on experiential learning, and our students benefit from undergraduate research supervision and co-op opportunities. Among other programs the department offers an Applied Statistics program which specializations in the areas of Economics, Psychology and Geography. The University also has an expanding Data Science program.

  • A curriculum-vitae, which should include if applicable, any mentorship or other relevant activities outside of academia.
  • A description of the proposed research program. Where possible this should highlight opportunities for collaborations with other departments or industry as well as any opportunities for student involvement.
  • A statement of teaching interests and philosophy, as well as brief outlines of courses previously taught.
  • Contact information for three references. At least one of these should directly address teaching capabilities and at least one should directly assess the prospective research plan.
  • A statement (1-2 pages) that describes any current or planned activities and contributions made to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion in academic (including both research and teaching), professional, or community contexts.
