Department summary

Through strategic planning and partnerships across Facilities and Operations as well as the wider campus community, the department of Integrated Planning, Development and Partnerships (IPDP) seeks to improve the viability and utility of our infrastructure. Social, economic and environmental sustainability principles are incorporated into each project in support of our Integrated Asset Management Strategy, Taking Care of our Campuses and the upcoming Space Optimization Strategy. The Campus Planning & Space Optimization unit is an integral team to the reimagining of how we use space and support the academic, teaching, learning and research mission of the University of Alberta. 

Position summary

The Space inventory Technologist will report to the Associate Director, Space Optimization and work under the direction and guidance of the Facility Analyst. The role is important to update the space inventory database in the university’s Computer Aided Facility Management system, AIM and Meridian, using AutoCAD, Bluebeam and MS Excel. Space updates will come from a variety of inputs including a soon to be deployed space survey, Space Planners, Faculty or Department Space Contacts and/or Project Managers.

Duties

  • Will conduct on-site space surveys and audits in person across all 5 campuses: North Campus, South Campus, Enterprise Square, Campus St. Jean and Augustana.
  • Clean and update record drawings and database asset information (i.e. space use, allocation, occupancy, sqm, etc) according to assigned priorities.
  • Will create simple space reports from AIM for internal stakeholders.
  • Will use tablets, electronic and hand held devices to collect and verify space inventory data in person, on site.
  • Interact with client groups to research information tracked by the University which includes occupant, space classification, area and other properties of space

Qualifications

  • New or recent graduate with a Diploma in Architectural Technology or Interior Design Technology or related field is required.
  • Ability to read and understand floor plans, and other building related documents
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD and MS Excel.
  • Training will be provided for CAFM systems (AIM and Meridian)
  • Knowledge of, or experience with CAFM technologies such as AIM and Meridian would be an asset.
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe Acrobat and Bluebeam would be an asset.
